MAN to display wide model range at ITTES in Melbourne

MAN Automotive Imports will again showcase an extensive range of trucks at this year’s ITTES held in Melbourne from the 3rd – 6th April.

The main exhibit will be a top of the range TGX 26.540BLS 6×4 prime mover with XLX cab. One of the most technologically advanced trucks on the market, the TGX 540 features a 4-valve, 6-cylinder, in-line engine with common rail injection, turbocharging and intercooling, providing an impressive 540hp and 2,500Nm torque.

The truck will showcase the latest “Evolution” option pack of driver oriented upgrades, along with a safety package of Active Cruise Control and Lane Guard (lane departure warning system).

“With its combination of high power, outstanding ride characteristics and a low tare weight the TGX really is the ideal truck for on highway work,” said MAN General Manager – Marketing, Cris Gillespie.

Featuring the latest in active and passive safety features the TGX includes a built-in crumple zone, the latest cabin ergonomics, disc brakes all round, Anti Lock Braking system (ABS) and a state of the art Electronic Brakeforce System (EBS) which ensures a shorter emergency stopping distance.

MAN 4×2 and 6×4 prime movers now also come as standard with ASR traction control and ESP electronic stability program, a move which was introduced by MAI across the TGS & X on-highway prime mover range from October build dates last year, to further enhance operator and road safety.

Two TGX 540 models will again continue to support Triple Eight Race Engineering as its ‘Official Transporter’ for the 2014 V8 Supercar season, a successful partnership which is now entering its 5th year. The TGX prime movers are tasked with ensuring that Red Bull Racing Australia’s Holden VF Commodores tour the country reliably, safely and comfortably to and from each event.

One of the more unique trucks on display will be a TGS 35.440BL 8×4 model scheduled for delivery to road building equipment supplier, Wirtgen Australia. This chassis is specifically built for Wirtgen with a manual transmission and high-power PTO to suit specialist road maintenance bodies.

Additionally, another new MAN TGS (with Evolution pack) for Victorian Customer Rocke Bros will be at the show – a 26.480BLS 6×4 prime mover with L cab. This will bring to eleven the total number of MAN’s that Rocke Bros now operate.

A TGM 18.340BB 4×4 with C day cab in ground spreader spec will also be on display.  This truck is fitted with the optional 9 speed manual transmission.

Over the last few years, many companies have been progressively moving to MAN all-wheel-drive trucks for their ground spread business. Gippsland based Gibson’s Groundspread operate an extensive fleet of MAN TGM 4×4’s.

“With their low tare weight and high payload, excellent driver comfort and all wheel drive ability the TGM 4×4 model is the ideal truck for the specialised ground spreading business,” Mr Gillespie added. Gibson’s will shortly be taking delivery of their 20th MAN.

A TGS 26.540 6×4 L cab is the first of five MANs destined for Noske Logistics, and will be based in Geelong/Portland. Noske’s requirements called for a compact cab / low weight package to tow B-Double tip trailers. Amongst various options, the truck has been fitted with custom-designed hydraulics.

The final truck on display is a TGS 18.360BLS – a 4×2 prime mover with the premium LX cab. The large LX cab offers extra headroom and plenty of storage space. It represents the largest cab available in the TGS range, with twin bunk capability.
